JOHN WELLER WELCOMES FULL COUNCIL TAX CHARGE PROPOSAL FOR SECOND HOMES

This proposal will bring back accountability to the owners of second homes in Cornwall's rural and coastal communities where affordable local housing has been hard hit by second home ownership which has driven up the price of family homes."

John believes that second homes in Restormel and Cornwall as a whole give rise to areas of specific concern, including:

The reduction in available housing for local people

The affordability of housing in coastal and rural communities where new building is restricted by planning or environmental factors.

The reduction of permanent residents in small towns and villages etc. and the affect on the voters' lists
The reduction in permanent population requiring all the regular support services for the community; rural shops and Post Offices; other rural businesses; doctors' surgeries; public transport; schools; and access to welfare benefits.
The demise of community organisations that rely on residents' support: the Parish Councils; village sports clubs; W.I.s'; playgroups; etc.
